Simon Fraser University, henceforth SFU, in Burnaby, BC seems like a mighty fine place to get an education. I’ve been there for exactly a month and a day today and I must say I quite like it.
Maybe it lacks the grand architecture of some older universities, maybe the colour of the walls is too whelming for some sensitive souls, maybe it is too geometrically designed to be aesthetically pleasing to anyone who doesn’t like order. But I’m none of the above and it has been a fair bit of fun so far.
The classes are rigorous enough, something one would expect from a university that was ranked #1 by Maclean’s 5 times between 1990 and 2000. There are a lot of student clubs and student associations, but does one really have the time to participate in these? While there may be a bit of reserve on the part of strangers, as is normal in most Anglo-Saxon societies, once spoken to, most students are friendly and readily chat with you.
Only time will tell if it is a positive experience throughout, but it has been excellent thus far.
