This one was a bit of a doozy. The main themes were anagrams of sports teams with a clue to help you along your way. Consider “Argot” for “Jargon from a mixed-up Florida athlete?”. The Florida Gators. Gator -> Argot, get it? Yeah, pretty long-winded. Other thematic pillars were “Wine Lovers” for “Oenophile, as a mixed-up Michigan athlete?”, “Leather” for “Jacket material for a mixed-up North Carolina athlete?”, “Ran Past” for “Flew by, as a mixed-up Michigan State athlete?” and “Rub In” for “Apply to the skin, as on a mixed-up U.C.L.A. athlete?”.
Other clues that led me astray were “Study of Pleasure”, which turned out to be “Hedonics”, not “Hedonism”. Ouch.
New words: “Marsala” for “Veal ____”. Clearly, I’ve been missing out. “One A Cat” for “Classic Batting Game” and “Essenes” for “Ancient Dead Sea Sect” rounded up the new entries in my lexicon.
Some mistakes saw us waste a bit of time, but I got it in the end. Let’s see if tomorrow’s is easier.
