Today’s crossword had a theme to make the parsimonious happy: it centered around “A Good Deal”. We had “Black Jack”, “Two For One”, “Bazillion” and “Golden Parachute”. The theme wasn’t so obvious, since those phrases don’t share too much in common.
New word: “Snell” for “Fishhook attachment” and “Oca” for “Andean tuber”. Some other toughies were the usual slew of proper nouns from pop culture and sports that no one knew. “Peri” for “Gilpin of “Frasier”", “Lee Z Cobb” for “Willy Loman player on Broadway” and “Kinar” for “Seven-time N.L home run champ” rounded up the hard section.
The rest was ho-hum and we finished it with time to spare.
