This Halloween crossword was a real treat to solve. “TS of the Trade”, “Tise”, “Jeane Kirkpat”, “Enty”, “Pretments”, “St Pat”, “Peace Ties” and “Card T” were the answers that made up the theme, which turned out to be “T or T”. The date was a dead giveaway, and the answers make sense once you realize you’re not allowed to write the “Rick” or “Reat” in either “Trick or “Treat”. Candy, anyone?
Also, this puzzle was 16 x 15, breaking the usual rule of it being a 15 x 15 square. Ken Stern and Will Shortz are living on the edge, flouting the majestic conventions of the NYTC in this fashion.
