Castle Waiting is another one of these graphic novels you pick up because it holds some promise and luckily, it didn’t disappoint. Linda Medley melds together several disparate elements into a melange of Eurasian fairy tales that hold your attention for the duration of the book, which is more than can be said for some other books. You have a princess who is enchanted and sleeps for a century, and no man is capable of waking her save for a prince at the appointed time. There are also bearded ladies who live in a nunnery, established by runaway princesses from a faraway land. Add in a mischievous water spirit, an avenging ringmaster and several other characters in the fortified nunnery and you have enough of a story to publish several volumes.
In short, an entertaining fairytale without too many serious messages that might detract from the charm of the story. Pick this one up for some quick entertainment.
