The Inferno

The Inferno :: It is a fallacy to state that something exists just because it can’t be proven that it doesn’t
The Politics of Ecstasy

Ok, not really. But if you’re interested in American politics at all, even at this early stage, this comparison should confirm what you thought you knew.

Comparison

All the Democrats are for abortion rights, while the Republicans unflinchingly, save for Giuliani oppose it. It seems to a be a Republican thing, wanting control of your uterus so bad, they have to make a law for it.

Unfortunately both sides favour the death penalty in somewhat equal numbers, which really shows that most Americans simply can’t choose an enlightened party on this topic.

All the Democrats favour stem cell research, which is a good thing. Most Republicans don’t, which is no surprise, given that they cater to the same conservative, religious right.

I don’t get why Republicans don’t favour assault gun bans and gun background checks, since these measures will save lives and prevent other Virginia Tech massacres from happening. Oh wait, maybe the NRA is against it. Remember kids, in America, lobbying is the ONLY thing that matters.

Both sides favour the Patriot Act. Disgusting.

Guantanamo Bay. No surprise here, with all Democrats against it, and most Republicans for it, except for McCain, who also happens to be one of the few favouring stem cell research. Of course it didn’t matter what they tried, since Bush simply vetoed every amendment to expand stem cell research. The rest of the world plows on at fiery speeds in scientific research while American scientists are increasingly beleaguered and distracted by rubbish like Intelligent Design, stem cell bans etc… Ludicrous.

The rest is fairly predictable, including the Democrat push for an increase in the minimum wage, while the Republicans oppose it, to a man.

But why should someone care so much about American politics, it’s all crap, you say. Well, yes and no. It’s interesting to a point, and I just graduated and have 4 months off. So it’s a good distraction, while I work and wait to get into grad school.
