So, I heard that the president of Iran has outlawed all ‘Western’ music, whatever that means. So is this man
a hard headed conservative who wants to outlaw all decadent forms of expression and go back 3000 years to some mythical, PURE state, or does he just have good taste?
I hear that the majority of Western music played in Iran is mainly stuff like Wham, the Eagles, Rush and so on. Staples of baby boomer classic rock mixed in with judicious doses of glam from the Excessive Eighties. In that case, I must congratulate Watzisname for banning them, in fact, my friends and I have been trying to get that stuff banned in Canada for years.
I really feel for the people of Iran. Over the last century, they’ve constantly been screwed by the west. First, we helped the Shah overthrow a democratically elected government and set the stage for the Islamic Revolution. Then we helped intensify and lengthen the Iran-Iraq war, which cost countless lives on both sides. Sending them dreck like Wham and the Eagles is just the latest atrocity in a long list.
Having said that, I think we’d be incredibly stupid to allow the theocratic lunatics who run that country to develop a nuclear arsenal. Unfortunately, the Europeans naively think they can find a diplomatic solution without a credible military threat. The Americans are overextended right now, and I doubt Israel has the ability to destroy Iran’s nuclear infrastructure without using nukes themselves.
I’m particularly disappointed in the Canadian government for not taking a more active role in this. We of all people should know how brutal the Iranian government is. Then again, I’m not entirely surprised after seeing how quickly our diplomats rolled over for the mullahs when their henchmen murdered a Canadian citizen.
(Sorry for directing my rant at a lighthearted post, but I feel really strongly about this.)
I have a word about this man’s taste.in the past 28 years , the only form of western music allowed in Iran has been classical music. all modern music even pop and anything wih vocals have been banned in iran. because of that, there is little knowledge of good modern music in iran.but still , there are underground Metal Scenes and die hard Metalheads in iran. so his words refer to that limited classical and some electronic/New age instrumental music played in TV/Radio.infact this man desn’t have a music taste atall ’cause according to his islamic belief playing or listening to any kind of music is a major sin.
