Wizard of Oz

I just finished the Oz marathon. Having watched all six seasons in the space of a week, I must say I’m impressed. The extreme, unflinching brutality made me cringe at times, but the pace kept me glued to the screen. I’m not sure how watching brutal violence 12 hours a day has affected my brain, but who cares, really.

I must say my favorite character is Ryan O’Reily, whose sly sociopathic exterior hides, well, a sociopathic interior. Watch the series if you like game theory at all, since every episode is an exercise in maximizing individual profit at the expense of your enemies and friends. Sometimes the individuals represent their groups, but mostly work alone. And of course, if you are a fan of extreme brutality or the coarse underbelly of society where truth is not masked by gratuitous liars or facetious spin doctors, this series is for you.

It seems the legal system in the States still has its head on straight, as evinced by the following verdict, at PA. judge: ‘Intelligent design’ can’t be taught in schools

The long and short of it is that the case for Intelligent Design as a biological theory was thrown out of court, which is good news indeed. If the most technologically advanced nation the world has ever seen, at any point in its history starts to teach its kids nonsense, I wonder how long it’ll stay that way? A generation or two, perhaps.

In any case, here are some cartoons on the topic which I found amusing:

New species?

Scale

Ahhhh

Alternate Theory

Choices...

And finally, a still from Family Guy, showing where Peter stands on the retardation scale. Below retarded but above creationists.

Religious troglodyte or just a man with good taste?

So, I heard that the president of Iran has outlawed all ‘Western’ music, whatever that means. So is this man

Victim

a hard headed conservative who wants to outlaw all decadent forms of expression and go back 3000 years to some mythical, PURE state, or does he just have good taste?

I hear that the majority of Western music played in Iran is mainly stuff like Wham, the Eagles, Rush and so on. Staples of baby boomer classic rock mixed in with judicious doses of glam from the Excessive Eighties. In that case, I must congratulate Watzisname for banning them, in fact, my friends and I have been trying to get that stuff banned in Canada for years.
